Alice Acen's Story

ALICE ACEN

Alice Acen is a young woman, born in 1981. She is married to Okidi Alfred.
Before Caring hands, she use to sell bananas on street. Caring Hands registered her on 30th of November 2006 and since then she has been a beader.

She comes from the northern part of Uganda, but naturally lives now in Kampala, area called Naguru. She has had a lot of problems with her health and she was very sick long time. Main reason was the house where she stayed with her family. House was made of mud and the dust and dampness cause her serious breathing and lung problems and asthma. Drinking water was also a problem, they didn’t boil it, so she and of course the rest of the family had a continuous stomachache.

Caring Hands helped her to renovate the house and she got also a medical help and good advises how to make tap water drinkable. Nowadays it is easy to see sparkling smile on her face again.

Since Alice joined Caring Hands she is able to support her large family e.g. pay the rent and children’s school fees. Her husband works as a gate-keeper, but the work is there only on and off.

Here is the rest of the family:

1. Apio Janet, born in 1998. She is a sister to Alice.
2. Orim Dennis who is about 18-19 years. He is a brother to Alice’s husband.
3. Okello Kizito who is about 20 years and is the brother of Alice.
4. Kidega Samuel, born 2002, is her son.
5. Komaketch James, born in 2005, is her son
