Nirere Prossy' Story
Nirere Prossy
Life without hope, love and care from the ones you love is difficult to live and at times leads
to lack of self esteem and giving up.
Nirere Prossy is a widow with five children .Four of them are her own and she is adopting the other child. She is HIV positive and she was born on 12th March, 1971. When Possy’s husband died, she was so sick and couldn’t pay her house rent. She had no surviving relatives to go to since her husband’s relatives abandoned her claiming that she had killed their brother. She lived on the streets where she later shifted and stayed in a small church building for two years .At that time life was so hard for her since she also suffered from Herpes Zosta which largely affected her eyes. She was heading for death due to the fact that she begun deteriorating as a result of poor feeding and un healthy conditions.

Prossy had just joined Caring Hands in the photo.
An orphanage fearing that Prossy was going to die took up four of her children and left her with her eldest son to look after her. In 2007, she joined Caring Hands and was trained to make paper beads and from this, she was able to get some money to rent a room and get out of the church building. She is unable to make as many beads within the group as the other ladies. It is a challenge meeting the needs of her large family and she is constantly sad and very depressed. Her immunity is constantly bombarded with opportunistic infections. She is so lonely and will not cope with the children’s pressures but thanks to Caring Hands which restored her happiness, peace and joy by accepting her as she was, loving and caring for her by paying her monthly rent, paying her children’s school fees, catering for her feeding and paying her medical bills. Nirere Prossy is now a happy and joyous woman.
